Public lecture and honorary doctor at Auckland University

The first thing I will do this morning (well, for you it is still evening) is to hold a public lecture at the University of Auckland, where I will also receive an Honorary doctor in law. It a good opportunity to talk about the common global challenges we face, but as New Zealand and the EU are like-minded partners I am optimistic that this message will be understood.

PS: For those of you who may ask whether there can be Commission meetings while I am absent: This is indeed possible. Today's meeting of the College was chaired by Vice-President Reding in my absence.
